Drying Out for Independence Day!

LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Chief Meteorologist Jacob Riley has your Thursday night weather update for July 3, 2025.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy. Low of 70°. Winds SSE 8-12 MPH.Tomorrow: Partly cloudy. Isolated shower or storm. High of 89°. Winds S 12-18 MPH.

TONIGHT:

A mostly cloudy sky hangs around the region as showers and storms wrap up for most. A few showers will linger into the morning hours of Friday. We will see winds out of the south-southeast around 8-12 MPH. Low temperatures will fall into the mid 60s to low 70s by sunrise. We may see a few areas of patchy fog as well.

FRIDAY:

Warmer temperatures creep back into the region for our Independence Day on Friday! Highs will peak in the mid 80s to low 90s, with warmest temperatures expected over western areas. Clouds will hang around eastern areas a little longer, keeping them cooler. Isolated showers and a stray storm will be possible throughout the day, but widespread wash-out conditions are not likely. Winds will be out of the south around 12-18 MPH under a partly cloudy sky. Friday night into Saturday morning will be mild, as lows remain in the mid 60s to low 70s.

SHORT TERM FORECAST:

Temperatures look to hold steady as we head into the weekend, as highs remain in the upper 80s to mid 90s across the KLBK forecast area! Isolated showers and storms will remain possible for both Saturday and Sunday, with confidence in coverage a little greater for Sunday evening! Some locally heavy downpours and lightning are the main concerns, as severe weather is not likely at this point in time. Morning lows look to stay in the mid 60s to low 70s. We will see a mix of clouds and sunshine each day, with a mostly clear to partly cloudy sky expected. Winds will be out of the south-southeast, sustained around 10-20 MPH.

EXTENDED FORECAST:

As we head into the work week next week, temperatures will begin to rise back into the mid and upper 90s! More sunshine is expected around the region, which will allow for us to begin to dry out some. Morning lows will hold steady in the mid 60s to low 70s. Winds will become more south-southwesterly, but speeds look to remain sustained around 10-20 MPH. Aside from a stray shower or storm here and there, we will remain dry.
