The Essence Festival of Culture, known for its celebration of Black culture, music, and food, might not seem like the first place to go to learn about your cholesterol levels.
But for Tara and Fredrick Robinson, a husband and wife duo who co-founded the health advocacy nonprofit Black Heart Association in 2017, it’s exactly where they want to be to help empower people with knowledge about their well-being.
“When we show up, somebody’s life is going to be saved from learning they have bad cholesterol, high blood pressure. It’s a silent killer,” Tara said. “We get to have these conversations at house parties, family reunions, places people are not thinking to go.”…
