NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A car caught on fire and an Amazon van flipped over and landed perilously close to a house in the area of Lafayette Boulevard and Dupont Circle Thursday afternoon, neighbors and police said.
There was no immediate word on any injuries or the number of people involved, but Norfolk Police are investigating, with residents in the area saying speed was likely a factor in the crash on a road one neighbor nicknamed the “Lafayette motor speedway.”
A resident in the area, Charles Adams, said the Amazon van was trying to cross Lafayette Boulevard when it was hit from the side by the black Mercedes that was seen coming from over the bridge. Adams said it sounded like an explosion. Both vehicles ended up in Elvert Louis’ yard. Police said the crash happened around 2:30 p.m…
