Upstate vets urge pet safety amid Independence Day celebrations

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – On this Independence Day holiday, Upstate veterinarians are stressing the importance of keeping pets calm and collected.

They said the fourth of July holiday is notorious for another reason many people probably don’t think of, where they see some of the highest rates of runaway animals.

“It’s not uncommon for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits to be, you know, just naturally afraid of loud noises. So, like a vacuum cleaner, a lawn mower, thunder, lightning, and fireworks,” said Dr. Christy Belcher, a veterinarian and owner of Upstate Home Veterinary Services…
