Crash closes I-70 westbound near North Split
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A passenger vehicle on I-70 westbound approaching the North Split made an abrupt lane change, leading to a fatal crash with a semitractor-trailer during busy Fourth of July travel near downtown Indianapolis.
Several 911 calls sent medics to the crash at the 83.4-mile marker about 4:45 p.m. Friday.Indiana State Police Crash reconstructionists at 8 p.m. Friday remained at the scene, closing several lanes, and the traffic backup extended to the Emerson Avenue exit.
Early reports were that the adult male driver of the semi-tractor braked abruptly, which forced a load of plywood from the trailer’s flatbed to break loose. The load of plywood then struck the back of the semi-tractor. When troopers arrived, they found the driver of the semi unconscious and not breathing. He was later pronounced dead at the scene…
