After costly oversight, Mobile County court system changes grand jury notification

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile County court system is making changes after FOX10 News highlighted a defendant who paid electronic monitoring fees for nearly two years after a grand jury decided not to indict him.

It was not until last week, after FOX10 News asked the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office why it was taking so long to present Brenton Joal McVay’s case to a grand jury that the electronic court file was updated to reflect that a grand jury had decided nearly two years earlier that there was not enough evidence to charge him.

It was an error that cost McVay thousands of dollars in fees…
