Florida man killed in crash while driving riding mower in roadway, FHP says

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – A 61-year-old Florida man riding a lawnmower in the roadway was killed in a collision with a car driven by an Alabama teen Friday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened on U.S. 29 near East Bogia Road in Escambia County.

The FHP said the victim, a resident of McDavid, Fla., was driving a riding lawnmower in the right northbound travel lane of U.S. 29. The 18-year-old driver of a Honda sedan, a resident of McKenzie, Ala., was also northbound in the right lane of U.S. 29 approaching the riding lawnmower from behind, authorities said.

According to the FHP, the driver of the sedan did not see the riding mower in time to apply her brakes fully to avoid a collision. Her car hit the rear of the riding mower, troopers said…
