Fallen Toledo police officer Anthony Dia remembered with annual Fourth of July cookout

TOLEDO, Ohio — Five years after Toledo police officer Anthony Dia was killed in the line of duty, his family continues to honor his memory with an annual Fourth of July cookout outside the Home Depot on West Alexis Road, where he was shot and killed while responding to a 911 call.

On July 4, 2020, Dia was responding to a report of an intoxicated man in the Home Depot parking lot when the suspect suddenly shot him. His surviving wife, Jayme, said Anthony had approached the man calmly and respectfully before being shot.

“He was like, ‘Excuse me, sir.’ So polite to this monster. And the guy cut behind some plant pillars, turned around and shot him one time. And it unfortunately hit him,” she said…
