Letter: Calling for Lubbock County to release more information in Erskin Jenkins’ killing

The people of Lubbock deserve transparency in the case of the shooting of Erskin Jenkins.

Days before Thanksgiving, a 20-year-old Black Texas Tech student named Erskin Jenkins was shot and killed at a Friendsgiving celebration by a Lubbock County Sheriff officer.

His mother, Sharon Jenkins sent her child to Texas Tech, but she never imagined that he would never be coming home. Not because of a car accident. Not because of an illness but because he was shot and killed by a Lubbock County Sheriff Deputy. Erskin was shy. He had never been in trouble. He was an A student. And yet, he was alleged to have been extremely intoxicated, waving a gun and holding a person hostage…
