AHS offers tips to prevent pet escapes on Independence Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Independence Day may be relaxing for people, but it can be a frightening and dangerous holiday for pets. The American Humane Society (AHS) says July 5 is historically the busiest day for animal shelters, as many pets run away out of fear.

Pets who are usually upset by thunder, doors slamming, or other loud noises can be upset by fireworks as well. The American Humane Society suggests taking precautions.

Those Precautions include leaving your dogs at home, keeping them inside, and shielding them from the sounds and bright flashes. Be sure your pet’s ID tags are up to date and attached to their collar. If your pet is microchipped, double-check that your information is up to date as well…
