Wichita toddler dies from injuries, stepfather arrested

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 2-year-old boy has died after being hospitalized with severe injuries earlier this week, and his stepfather has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Wichita police were first called to Wesley Medical Center on Thursday after the child was brought in with injuries reportedly sustained from a fall. But investigators say the explanation given by the adult caregiver at the time — the boy’s stepfather — did not match the nature of the injuries.

Due to the severity and suspicious circumstances, detectives from the Wichita Police Department’s Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit and Homicide Unit took over the investigation. That same day, officers arrested the 33-year-old stepfather on charges of alleged aggravated battery and child abuse.
