EUGENE, Ore. — There may have been fireworks after the Eugene Emeralds’ game on Thursday, but there were hardly any fireworks from the second inning until the end of the game.
Both the Emeralds and the Hillsboro Hops went scoreless from the second inning all the way until the last play in the ninth. The Emeralds were able to get multiple hitters on base, but no runs with the game tied at 1.
In the bottom of the ninth inning with runners in scoring position and one out, Emeralds outfielder Jonah Cox hit one down the third baseline. The Hops threw the runner out at homeplate, then the catcher went for the out at first, but instead the ball hit the helmet of Jonah Cox allowing Jose Ramos to score to win the game for the Emeralds, 2-1 the final…
