On the humid evening of July 2, 2025, concern engulfed the 300 block of East 27th Street as Marchello Dupree Woodward, 43, was fatally shot by a Pennsylvania State Parole Agent during a routine compliance check. This incident, unfolding at around 9:50 p.m., has sparked intense scrutiny from both local residents and civil rights advocates.

According to an official press release from Pennsylvania State Police, Troop E—dated July 3, 2025—the Parole Agents identified Woodward sitting in a parked car, approached him, and ordered him to step out. When he tried to drive away—dragging one agent—the agent discharged “multiple rounds into the driver’s compartment” before eventually falling free.
