Hundreds join Kathy’s Run for Cancer, raise money for research and education

RICHLAND, Mich. — While many participated in the usual July 4th festivities, hundreds of people took part in a run for fighting cancer and promoting education.

Over 550 runners took part in Kathy’s Run for Cancer at Gull Lake High School on Friday, surpassing the number of participants from last year.

“It’s incredible. It’s hard to explain. But you know, it’s not all all the runners. There are a lot of people, a lot of businesses in this area that have donated and made it a huge success,” said Matt Kollig, president of the Kathy Kollig Foundation.

Formerly called The Rose Run, the race’s name was changed to honor Kathy Kollig, who was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.
