At Statehouse And Doo-Dah, The “Resistance” Celebrates Independence Day

About half an hour into the 4th of July No Kings demonstration on the Statehouse lawn, a woman named Liz took refuge from the oppressive sun under the trees along High Street. Her first protest was against the first Gulf War, more than thirty years ago. This time she had a much more personal reason to march.

“I came out today because a good friend of mine was deported two weeks ago back to Laos,” she said. “He’s been here since he was four and I grew up with him. He gave me away at my wedding. So I’m marching for him today.”…
