Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Coachella Valley and San Diego County Deserts Amid Soaring Temps

As Southern California braces for a sweltering week, the National Weather Service San Diego has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Coachella Valley and San Diego County Deserts from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening. With temperatures expected to exceed 115°F in the lower deserts, authorities urge residents and travelers to prepare for the heat wave by staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak hours, as per the National Weather Service.

According to the latest area forecast discussion from the NWS, the marine layer keeping coastal areas comparatively cool will start to lift, allowing inland valleys to warm up significantly. “The subtropical ridge to the east of the region will begin to become more amplified, and the axis will begin to shift more westward towards SOCAL,” the NWS forecast notes, a move that will allow temperatures to continue to rise gradually throughout the week.

The NWS also highlighted a moderate to major risk of heat impact across inland valleys and deserts, indicating that the dangers associated with such high temperatures are becoming more pronounced.
