The city is taking steps to bolster its fire department support. On June 17, the Redlands council members unanimously approved an agreement with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) for supplemental fire resources for $332,672.55.
Redlands Fire Chief Rich Sessler said the annual contract with Cal Fire, known as the Wildland Fire Protection Agreement, began in 1990.
“Through this agreement, Cal Fire supplies critical supplemental resources, including helicopters, aircraft, dozers and crews, engines, and unified command during wildland incidents. This also gives a more predictable, manageable cost structure, especially important as a single wildland fire can have significant costs associated with it,” Sessler said…
