Migrant gets plea deal in ARC Music Fest robbery as co-defendant disappears

One of two Venezuelan migrants accused of robbing ARC Music Festival attendees of pricey gold chains last summer has been sent to prison — briefly. The other? He skipped court and disappeared.

Jonas Alcala-Arteaga, 31, was sentenced to one year in prison after recently cutting a plea deal with prosecutors. Chicago police arrested him at Union Park on September 1, 2024, during the festival, a major electronic music event that draws thousands.

A 37-year-old Schaumburg man told police someone stepped on his foot shortly after he entered the park around 6 p.m. When he confronted the person, Alcala-Arteaga allegedly ripped a gold chain and medallion from his neck and bolted, according to a CPD report…
