Olathe man sentenced in young son’s 2023 hot car death

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) – An Olathe man was sentenced after pleading guilty in connection with the death of his 11-month-old son in April 2023.

Michael Pierro entered a guilty plea in Johnson County court on the amended charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 36 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections. All other charges were dismissed by the prosecutor.

Persyda Trevino, the child’s mom, spoke to WDAF-TV last year. She said she rushed to the hospital after finding out her 11-month-old August was in the fight of his life. It happened after he and two of his siblings, ages 3 and 5, were left in a hot car for hours, according to investigators.

Baby August had a metabolic condition requiring that he be fed every three hours, and his body couldn’t effectively regulate his temperature. But his death wasn’t tied to his condition; instead, doctors determined he died of a heat stroke, his body temperature coming in at more than 105 degrees…
