Blame it on the air conditioners: Whit & Whimsey

BRUNSWICK, Ohio – I can’t believe how fast June whizzed by and as my sister-in-law, Norma Wagner says, once you get to the Fourth of July, summer is almost over. That’s especially true with schools starting so much earlier now.

I guess we can blame that on innovation. With an emphasis on America’s history for our 250th anniversary next year, it’s obvious from our local history that people were a lot more adaptable to heat and cold before we had modern heating and cooling.

At Heritage Farm, home of the Brunswick Area Historical Society, we can see a lot of examples of how hard it must have been. It makes me very thankful I didn’t live back then, even though I can remember the days before air conditioning and, of course, coal-burning furnaces that we had to stoke several times a day. I’d say those were not the good old days if it was very hot or very cold…
