Woman airlifted after boat fire on Lewis Smith Lake

CULLMAN COUNTY, Ala. — A Mississippi woman was airlifted to UAB Hospital Sunday evening after a boat fire on Lewis Smith Lake left her injured while three other passengers escaped unharmed.

Katherine E. Goodwin, 30, of Florence, Miss., was injured when the 20-foot Runabout vessel she was riding in caught fire around 6 p.m. The incident occurred north of Trident Marina near Crane Hill.

All four people aboard the vessel jumped into the water as the boat caught fire. While boat operator Cody Curry, 40, also of Florence, and two 18-year-old passengers were not injured, Goodwin sustained injuries requiring emergency medical transport to University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital…
