High wave action and strong currents prompt beach hazard through Sunday evening

A beach hazard statement is in effect for Lake Michigan through late Sunday evening.

Due to high wave action, strong currents and expected dangerous swimming conditions, the National Weather Services (NWS) issued a beach hazard statement for Oceana, Muskegon and Ottawa counties through late Sunday evening.

As of 11 a.m., South Haven has yellow flags in place for South Beach, indicating moderate surf and/or currents, and green flags for the rest of the coast, indicating calm conditions.
