Family was separated during panic at Grand Rapids fireworks

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Screams of fleeing spectators can be heard as fireworks explode in the background in a video sent in by a viewer, showing the moments crowds ran through the Blue Bridge in Grand Rapids Saturday night.

A mom who was caught in the panic is thankful for the two strangers that helped her and her 3-month-old daughter find their family.

The video was captured as the fireworks finale sparkled overhead, according to person who sent the video to News 8. In it, a stream of people can be seen running east on the Blue Bridge as others run along the western bank of the Grand River near the end of the firework show.

Symantha Bordeau was among the crowd, introducing newborn to the family tradition of viewing the city’s fireworks. She said Grand Rapids has the best finale to celebrate her favorite holiday. It was a fun night and she remembers looking to her fiancé just as the finale fired off.

“I turned my head to the right, and there was just this wall of people running towards us it was like something out of a movie. It was literally the scariest thing I have ever seen. You started hearing people yelling run, instincts kick in, you grab your kid and you start running,” Bordeau…
