Local Tibetan Buddhist community celebrates Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday

HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – July 6 marks the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, and western Mass. residents shared how they are celebrating.

The Dalai Lama has turned 90 years old, and almost 7,000 miles across the world, local Tibetans, friends of Tibet, and western Massachusetts residents are celebrating his birthday.

The current Dalai Lama is the 14th one to serve as the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and the Tibetan people. The celebrations started with individuals honoring the Dalai Lama by offering a white silk scarf, a traditional way to show respect and honor.
