Mayor Cantrell laments ‘crucifixion’ by critics while speaking at Essence panel

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell described herself as an unfairly persecuted champion of the people’s values Sunday (July 6) at a panel discussion at the Essence Festival.

In a conversation ostensibly about generational wealth put on by the Global Black Economic Forum, Cantrell accepted praise for her leadership from moderator Quinting Lacewell and Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah, Ga.

“I think we were built for this,” Johnson told Cantrell. “Tough times don’t last, tough people do.”…
