Sioux Falls church celebrates 150 years of serving the community

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – There are many churches in the Sioux Falls metro area, but few can say they’ve been around for more than a century. One of those congregations marked a big milestone this week. With an anniversary of July 4th, First Baptist Church turned 150.

150 years ago, Sioux Falls would have looked unrecognizable to residents today. The population at that time was roughly around 500 people, well under 1000. South Dakota hadn’t even been admitted as a state yet. It was in those humble beginnings that a vision for a church found its humble beginnings, too.

Since then, that church has firmly planted its roots in the Sioux Falls community and left an impact around the region and around the world…
