Judge taking bond request under advisement for man accused of killing Columbia teen

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – A judge did not immediately rule on a bond request for a man accused of killing a Columbia teenager in 2023.

A bond hearing for Rick Chow was held Monday. Chow is charged with murder in the death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton.

Following the hearing, a judge said he would take the request under advisement. A decision could possibly be made later this week.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Chow, who owned a convenience store on Parklane Road, and his son chased Belton from the store on May 28, 2023. Chow is accused of shooting the teen a few yards away on Springtree Drive.

Authorities stated that Chow believed Belton was stealing from inside the gas station, but there was no immediate evidence to support this claim…
