KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — I-275 is scheduled to be closed over the weekend while crews replace a bridge, said a spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The road is scheduled to be closed in either direction from Friday at 7 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m. as well as from 7 p.m. on July 18 through 6 a.m. on July 21. Crews will work to replace the bridge over Elm Street and Bernard Avenue, TDOT said. A third weekend of closures will be needed in autumn. The schedule is contingent on favorable weather.

Drivers can bypass the closure by using I-40 and I-640, TDOT said. TDOT added that the project will employ Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques.
“ABC works safely and cost-effectively to reduce the onsite construction time that occurs when building new bridges or replacing and rehabilitating existing bridges,” a TDOT spokesperson wrote. “ABC improves site constructability, total project delivery time, and work-zone safety for the traveling public.”…
