South Plains trending drier, hotter

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Our thunderstorm chances will remain low today and tomorrow, but a few spotty storms are possible late today and again late tomorrow. Storm and rain chances will, for awhile, drop off to near zero the rest of the work week.

The storm chance late today and tomorrow will come primarily from the northwest. Storms are expected to build near the mountains of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, then drift to the southeast. Some of this activity may hold together long enough for rain to make it into the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area late both days, mainly during the evening and overnight.

As high pressure increases over the West Texas and eastern New Mexico region mid-week, storm chances will diminish to near zero Wednesday through Friday. Note I said to near zero. Temperatures will peak near to slightly above average, which is hot but not extreme heat. That said, the humidity is likely to remain elevated which can make it difficult for your body to cool itself. Practice heat safety! You’ll find tips at the end of this post.

Then, as the high pressure decreases, storms potentially could return to the South Plains area this weekend. Perhaps as early as Friday evening.

Here’s a summary of what we expect each day:…
