Shreveport Police credit one approach for continued drop in homicides at mid-2025

When Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith addressed the Shreveport City Council on June 23, updated crime statistics suggested the city might reach the midpoint of 2025 with half the number of homicides — from 32 to 16 — compared to the number at the midpoint of last year.

Two more homicides since that update ended the chance of a 50 percent half-year reduction, but SPD spokesperson Chris Bordelon said in a end-of-June presentation that 18 is “still a dramatic decrease from 2024.”
