3-Year-Old Girl in Critical Condition After Southeast D.C. Shooting, Police Offer $10K Reward for Information

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that unfolded over the weekend in Southeast, in which a 3-year-old girl was critically wounded by gunfire. According to information provided by the police department, the shooting occurred yesterday on the 1000 block of 14th Street, Southeast.

Officers from the First District were dispatched to the scene around 3:03 AM following reports of gunshots. They arrived to find the young child with a grave injury from a shot to the upper body whilst seated in a parked vehicle with her family. Emergency services were quick to respond, and DC Fire and EMS transported her to a local hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment for her critical injuries, as per the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police Chief Pamela A. Smith expressed the department’s deep concern for the child, stating, via the Metropolitan Police Department, “We are praying for this young child, and we thank the medical professionals who are currently treating her.” Smith condemned the violence, adding, “No family should have to experience this heartbreak – not here, not anywhere – and that’s why we work hard to remove illegal firearms from our community.” She emphasized the department’s dedication to the case, noting a team of detectives from MPD’s Major Case Squad is diligently following up on all leads, as reported by the police department…
