Possible Sighting of Triple-Murder Suspect Travis Decker
The intensive search for Travis Decker, the Washington state father accused of murdering his three young daughters, has intensified following a possible sighting in Idaho. A family camping in the Bear Creek area of Sawtooth National Forest reported seeing a man matching Decker’s description on July 5th.
The individual was described as having a long ponytail, overgrown facial hair, and gauged earrings. He was reportedly wearing a black mesh cap, cream-colored shirt, black shorts, and black low-top shoes, possibly Vans or Converse.
He was also carrying a black Jansport backpack.
This potential sighting comes six weeks into the manhunt for Decker, which began after the bodies of his daughters, 9-year-old Paityn, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 5-year-old Olivia, were discovered at Rock Island Campground on June 2nd. The girls were found with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound, near Decker’s abandoned truck.
Decker, a trained survivalist and former member of the U.S. Army, is believed to have fled into the wilderness.
Law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals Service and Border Patrol, have been conducting an extensive search by land and air.
Cadaver dogs have also been deployed. While authorities initially considered the possibility that Decker might have perished in the harsh terrain, they continue to actively pursue leads.
Blood found on Decker’s truck has been confirmed to be his, solidifying him as the prime suspect in the killings.
At the time of the murders, Decker was reportedly homeless, struggling with mental health issues, and living between motels and campgrounds. He is currently charged with three counts of aggravated first-degree murder and kidnapping. While considered armed and dangerous, authorities have stated they do not believe he poses a threat to the public.
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to Decker’s arrest.
