Two killed after head-on collision on I-495 in Fairfax County over Fourth of July weekend

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Two drivers were killed after a crash in the Express Lanes of Interstate 495 in Fairfax County on Sunday.

The incident is under investigation, but Virginia State Police identified the two drivers as 24-year-old Tremayne D. Gross and 32-year-old Meghan Elizabeth N. Mathis.

Around 2:30 a.m., on July 6, Gross was reportedly driving a 2017 Ford Edge and traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when the car struck Mathis’ 2004 Jeep Patriot head-on, police said.

Both drivers died at the scene, and police confirmed the two were wearing their seatbelts…
