Despite record travel during Independence Day weekend, the average price at the gas pump is lower coming off the holiday. That’s the word from AAA, which reports that Monday’s national average price per gallon is $3.14. That’s down by more than four cents from the previous week. New York State’s average fell by more than two cents to $3.19, and Chautauqua County also saw its average drop by over two cents and is now $3.28. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.51 and $3.62, respectively. AAA adds that oil prices have retreated back into the $66-68 per barrel range.
