Docs: Man tested positive for THC after gas station crash in Kzoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man who has been charged for crashing into a Kalamazoo gas station in March was going more than 20 mph over the speed limit and tested positive for THC, court documents show.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Eric Johnson’s car’s computer indicated that he was traveling 62 mph in a 40 mph zone and was operating at nearly full throttle at the time of the crash on March 19. A blood draw also revealed that he tested positive for THC, and officers found marijuana vape pens in his vehicle that tested positive for THC.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. when police say Johnson veered off the road and into the lot of a Speedway gas station on S Westnedge Avenue between Kilgore Road and Cork Street. His vehicle hit multiple people, cars and dislodged a fuel pump.

At the time, Johnson told police that he was coughing when the crash happened.

Johnson was charged on Wednesday with two counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function and two counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury…
