MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (KLTV) – A Titus County grand jury has indicted a Dallas woman in connection with the death of a 4-year-old child killed in a wreck.
Margarita Josefina Barrera, 24, is charged with manslaughter. She was booked into the Titus County Jail on July 2.
According to a DPS crash report, Barrera was driving a 2013 Nissan Armada at 5:53 p.m. on June 12 and going west on FM 899. She was distracted in the car due to passengers requesting music to be turned up. The report states Barrera was using her cellphone to record the infotainment screen on her car and drove out of her lane and off the road and into the grassy shoulder. She then drove over a dirt driveway and made a left turn in an attempt to get back on the road, causing her car to skid southwest. As she re-entered the road from the grassy shoulder, her right rear tire caught the edge of the asphalt, causing the car to overturn.
