Columbus Man Sentenced to 25-30 Years for Fatal Shooting at Birthday Party

A Columbus man has been sentenced to a significant prison term following a guilty plea for his role in a deadly shooting at an east Columbus birthday party last year. Al’Saiah Griffin, 32, will face 25 to 30.5 years behind bars for the killing of 34-year-old Tyler Goins after pleading guilty to charges of Involuntary Manslaughter, Felonious Assault, and two counts of Tampering with Evidence.

The incident, which occurred on May 18, 2024, unfolded during a birthday celebration for the victim, Tyler Goins. Griffin and Goins were in attendance, and an argument broke out between the two men. According to details released by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, Griffin produced a handgun amid the confrontation. He initially left the scene but returned shortly thereafter, and the dispute continued.

A neighbor at the scene reported witnessing Griffin yelling and making threats in the apartment before the sound of gunshots. Griffin discharged multiple shots up the stairs of the apartment complex, fatally striking Goins. In the chaotic aftermath, while Griffin fled, he later returned as the police arrived.
