KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — When you rent an apartment, you expect the landlord to clean the unit and fix broken items. A mother of three children said her landlord did very little to prepare her apartment before she moved in. She added that it was as if the landlord had forgotten about her.
Renting an apartment is expensive, especially in the Knoxville area. It used to be that when a tenant moved out of a unit, a maintenance crew would step in before the new renter arrived. The crew would shampoo the carpets, or replace them if they were damaged, they’d repaint the walls or touch them up, and repair things that were broken. None of that happened for the woman who called us.

Despite moving in on June 27, Mirabella Haitsch hasn’t unpacked because her apartment wasn’t ready for her family to move in. She lives at the sprawling Steeplechase Apartment complex in North Knoxville. Her unit has a large living area with three bedrooms and two baths, offering plenty of space for her three children. Haitsch said that when she saw the apartment’s virtual tour on its website, that sealed the deal. So she and her fiancé saved their money for months to rent the unit.
“I paid over $3,000. The exact amount is $3,233.53,” said Haitsch. She added that her monthly rent is $1,834. “I expected luxury apartments like they advertise. But it’s not at all.”…
