Uninsured and unlicensed Leesburg driver lands in jail after traffic stop

A Leesburg woman was arrested after admitting to having no license, registration or insurance despite being cited by another police department last week.

An officer spotted a beige Chevy Equinox going through the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 441 and Griffin View Drive around 10:40 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A check of its tag revealed the registration expired on June 13, and the owner, 32-year-old Tanzania Fiyon Moten, had a suspended driver’s license.

After being pulled over, Moten told the officer that her license was suspended, she had no insurance on the vehicle, and she was aware the registration was expired. She also advised that she just got a citation for driving with a suspended license. She showed it to the officer, confirming that the Umatilla Police Department had already cited her on June 27, the report said.

A check of Moten’s driving history showed she had a suspended license on April 15 for two failures to pay and another suspension for two failures to pay a traffic fine. She also had two prior guilty convictions for driving while her license was suspended from June 10, 2022, and Nov. 10, 2022, the report said…
