First, it will be the heat. Then, the strong storms.
Today is going to be an active day, starting this morning.
- Storm Team 10 Radar: Track storms as they happen here.
Tuesday begins warm and tropical-feeling with dew point temperatures well into the 70s. This is helping to produce a hazy, foggy start to the day especially at the coastline. Some of this fog may struggle to clear through mid-morning.
The heat and humidity paired together make for an incredibly uncomfortable day. A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of Rhode Island, Connecticut, and most of Massachusetts for the heat indices soaring into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees in some spots.
This heat and humidity helps in part to fuel some stronger storms this afternoon as a boundary slides our way. This may trigger several hours of active weather, from high wind and damaging gusts to flash flooding.
The best chance of seeing these strong storms will be after 2-4 p.m., lasting through the evening as a line of storms drops slowly across the region.
Some of these storms may linger over a specific spot for a while, which is called a training storm. When this occurs, it quickly drops a few inches of rainfall, which can cause flash flooding.
