1 dead, 1 in custody after deadly Tuesday morning shooting on Janet Drive

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Police Department said one person was killed and one person was taken into custody after a Tuesday morning shooting in the 3400 block of Janet Drive.

According to police, officers responded to the 3400 block of Janet Drive at around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday after a report of a shooting. 54-year-old Christopher Scott Copeland was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds.

The department said emergency responders attempted life-saving measures at the time. However, Copeland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said one person was taken into custody and was being held for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the shooting. The shooting is being considered an isolated incident by police, who said there was “no immediate threat to the community.”…
