On Sunday, July 5, a 17-year-old was killed and five others were injured during a shootout in East Lubbock.
East Lubbock Shooting with One Fatality
Just after 3:30 in the morning on Sunday, the Lubbock Police Department (LPD) responded to a call about a fight in progress at the 2900 block of Parkway Drive, according to an LPD news release. Because they were informed this was a large group of 100 people or more , multiple officers were dispatched.
Due to the large group of people and the elevated risk, LPD resources sent nearly every available officer to the scene. Day shift personnel were activated early just for this special case.
17-Year-Old Lubbock Shooter Identified
Officers immediately found the suspect, 17-year-old Terrence Hastings Jr., opening fire on the crowd. One officer who remains unnamed for the time being began chasing Hastings. Verbal commands were given to Hastings to lower the weapon and stop fleeing, but they were all ignored.
Instead, Hastings turned the firearm on others in the group, leading to the officer firing his own weapon, striking Hastings and dropping him to the ground…
