EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. — Superintendents from across Arkansas joined a Zoom meeting this morning with Arkansas Education Secretary Jacob Oliva to discuss potential budget cuts.
When asked about this meeting, superintendents unanimously agreed that they are “awaiting further instruction” before commenting on exact budget hits that could be coming. These funding cuts would come as a result of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” passed in the House and Senate last week.
Eureka Springs Superintendent Bryan Pruitt said that one program he fears will be hit hard is ESL, or English as a second language. Pruitt said that “14% (of Eureka Springs students) are Hispanic, so that could affect us a little bit. It’s not going to devastate us, but it will hurt us a little bit.”…
