City leaders provide update on Wichita’s water supply

At Tuesday’s Wichita City Council meeting, we received an update on the new water treatment plant.

Repairs have been completed, at no cost to the city, after mechanical issues were identified with the 6 clarifiers at the plant. They are a major part of the water treatment process. More testing will be done before the city takes full ownership of the plant, likely by the end of the year.

We also learned that water restrictions for the city will remain in place, probably through early next year. Gary Janzen with the city says they are already seeing the effects of evaporation on the lake level and if past summers are any indication, it can get worse…
