Alaska Wildlife Troopers report that three fishermen were rescued after their boat was overturned in shallow, stormy water. That happened in the Ugashik District in Bristol Bay. Troopers noted that these fishermen are lucky — as this is a place where the sea tends not to give out second chances.
The Juneau Symphony has appointed a new music director. Brad Hogarth — a trumpeter, educator, and conductor — says he’s honored and excited to join the group. Leaders with the Symphony say that Hogarth’s energy and artistic leadership will guide the group “into an inspiring new chapter.”
A community art project has added a splash of color to McGrath. Alaska Pacific University worked with Yup’ik artist Amber Webb to design this new mural. At the center is the word “Tochak.” That’s the original Athabascan place name for McGrath, meaning “a place to gather.”…
