Knox County to unveil replaced, cherished statue return at Thomas ‘Tank’ Strickland Park

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County leaders will unveil the return of a cherished monument at Thomas “Tank” Strickland Park Wednesday afternoon.

The bronze statue features two children reading on a bench, which was donated by Town Hall East in 2010. Knox County Parks and Recreation first announced the statue was stolen in August 2024. After it was stolen, the community came together with determination to bring it back.

In partnership with the Knox County Public Library, new security cameras have been installed at the park to ensure the safety of the replacement statue…
