Teen already facing hit-and-run charge jailed after caught with vape pen

A teenager already facing a hit-and-run charge is back in trouble after being caught with a vape pen and marijuana.

Bryce Thompson, 19, of Summerfield, was driving a black Dodge pickup at about 2 a.m. Monday northbound on U.S. 301 in the area of its intersection with County Road 472 in Wildwood when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy noticed that the truck’s taglight did not illuminate the license plate.

During a traffic stop, Thompson objected to the description of the non-functioning taglight and got out of his truck, according to the arrest report. When he exited the vehicle, the deputy noticed a black electronic smoking device which contained a wax-like substance. The substance in the vape pen tested positive for THC. A search of the truck also turned up marijuana and a glass bong device.

Thompson is already facing charges of hit and run, misuse of 911 and knowingly reporting false information about an alleged crime. In February, he allegedly dialed 911 and claimed he was the victim of a road rage attack. However, video surveillance corroborated his ex-girlfriend’s accusation that he had deliberately rammed her vehicle and then lied to a 911 dispatcher about a false road rage attack.
