ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A Lubbock woman is facing a felony charge after police say she assaulted a man and took back a dog she had previously adopted out during what she later called a “failed” adoption.
Rachel Magdalene Hodge was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for aggravated robbery in connection with a June 13 incident in Odessa. She remained in custody at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center as of Tuesday afternoon, held on a $50,000 bond.
According to a report from the Odessa Police Department, a 71-year-old man came to the department on June 13 to report that he had been robbed earlier that day while walking his dog in the 2400 block of E. 11th Street. The man told officers that Hodge, whom he recognized as the person from whom he adopted the dog in April, approached him in a red Chevrolet truck.
Police said Hodge allegedly exited the vehicle and sprayed the man multiple times with mace before grabbing the dog and attempting to drive away. Witnesses and video footage reportedly confirmed the account, showing the man being dragged nearly 10 feet as he held on to the truck in an effort to prevent the dog from being taken…
