Red Flag Warning Issued for Inland Northwest Due to Wind and Low Humidity

ASOTIN COUNTY, WA – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning effective from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday for portions of the Inland Northwest, including the Columbia Basin, Palouse, Spokane area, and Snake River region.

The warning replaces the previous Fire Weather Watch and comes as forecasters expect a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity—conditions that could contribute to rapid fire spread.

According to the forecast:

  • Tuesday: Winds from the west to southwest at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

  • Wednesday: Winds increasing to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts around 40 mph.

  • Humidity: Expected to drop to 8–15% on Tuesday and range from 18–25% on Wednesday.

Emergency officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with ignition sources. The combination of warm temperatures, wind, and low humidity can lead to extreme fire behavior with little warning…
