- ‘Pawn Stars’ guest brings boxing icon’s punching bags — Corey Harrison didn’t want to ‘take a chance’ (marketrealist.com)
A recent episode of “Pawn Stars” featured a piece of boxing history: punching bags allegedly used by the legendary Rocky Marciano. While the bags certainly packed a punch in terms of historical significance, their hefty asking price proved a knockout blow for a potential deal.
The seller, Scotty, brought the two well-worn bags into the shop, hoping to land a staggering $375,000. Corey Harrison, son of shop owner Rick, immediately consulted expert Jeremy Brown.
Brown, clearly impressed, called Marciano “an absolute legend,” acknowledging the boxer’s unparalleled power despite his smaller stature. Scotty echoed the sentiment, noting Marciano’s ability to knock out larger opponents with a single blow.
The problem? Authenticating the bags.
While paperwork linked the bags to Grosenger’s Training Camp, where Marciano trained, there were no identifying marks or serial numbers. Brown explained that unlike autographs, which have established authentication services, unique items like these are difficult to verify.
He admitted, however, that their one-of-a-kind nature could make them incredibly valuable to the right collector, potentially fetching a million dollars.
Ultimately, the hefty price tag and lack of concrete authentication were too much for Corey. While acknowledging the potential value, he politely declined the deal, suggesting that an auction house would be a better venue for such a high-stakes sale.
He doubted a six-figure buyer would stroll into the pawn shop, and wasn’t willing to risk his own money on the gamble. Scotty left without a deal, but with the hope that another venue might hold the key to unlocking the bags’ true value.
